Our authorities make tremendous efforts to come out with solutions to overcome these problems. I would like here to pay them a respectful homage. Also, I sincerely thank the medical staff which has the huge task of taking care of the patients. In the domain of the fight against AIDS, Cameroon government’s plan, through the National AIDS Control Committee during the recent years focused on information, prevention and treatment, in order to overturn the spread of the disease.
Emphasis is put on:
- Sensitisation and educative intensive campaigns
- Creation of HIV treatment centres
- Reducing the cost of antiretroviral drugs
- Better care during blood transfusion
However, due to the limited financial resources available in our countries, much is still to be done. You will therefore understand the need to scale up the mobilisation to persons of goodwill both in and out of the continent in order to reinforce our action.
It is therefore evident that something has to be done; and we have to work together and now, with the support of our husbands and partners in order to:
- Relieve patients from their suffering
- Dispel the anguish of distressed mothers
- Protect the future of orphans
- Give back hope to overwhelmed families, which look at us today, expecting our support, affection and comfort.
With regard to our roles as mothers, spouses, sisters and leaders, we shouldn’t be indifferent to any suffering. None should be unfamiliar to us. We should all feel affected and lend our relentless support to the fight against AIDS and suffering. Dear sisters, it is the motherly challenge that we have to take up. |
