| In line with its goals and objectives, "African Synergy against AIDS and Suffering" intends to contribute, along with other public, private, national and international stakeholders, to the fight against HIV/AIDS and Suffering which hinder the development of the populations of Africa. The concrete and efficient actions that African Synergy wants to undertake are hinged on the determination of First Ladies and the spirit of solidarity and human concern that prevails among scientists and other individuals and corporate bodies of goodwill. The dynamism generated by African Synergy is shown through actions to be taken at the national, regional and international levels..
NATIONAL LEVEL
1. Encourage and lend support to HIV/AIDS prevention through:
-
Greater actions to inform, educate, sensitize and communicate with families,
- Schools, local communities, traditional and religious authorities, opinion sectors;
- Anonymous, voluntary free and confidential detection ;
- Special attention to national efforts to fight against HIV/AIDS pandemic and mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
2. Encourage and lend support to care-giving actions through:
3. Encourage and lend support to the development of research on a vaccine and antiretroviral drugs.
4. Encourage actions aimed at promoting capacity building and access to basic health and social services in urban and rural areas so as to ensure low-risk deliveries, the effective participation of the community in reducing maternal mortality and people's embracing of family planning activities.
5. Promote and lend support to all actions aimed at giving added impetus to and popularizing programmes to reduce cases of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
6. Promote actions aimed at improving immunization against child diseases, particularly polio, measles, neo-natal tetanus and popularizing breastfeeding.
7. Encourage and promote actions aimed at strengthening social measures to protect children in distress, particularly victims of malnutrition, abandonment, disasters and armed conflicts, street children, victims of marital conflicts and orphans, especially those of AIDS.
8. Encourage and lend support to the opening of centres for physically and mentally disabled children.
9. Encourage actions aimed at sensitising people to the need to halt the enlistment of children in armed groups, sexual exploitation, child trafficking and the intake of narcotics and psychotropic substances.
10. Promote all actions aimed at stepping up efforts to educate the girl child, particularly the fight against school failures and dropouts, early pregnancies and sexual abuse.
REGIONAL LEVEL
11. Promote AIDS control related cooperation and partnership as concerns prevention, care of persons living with HIV/AIDS, research and, mobilization of funds.
12. Encourage the design, execution, monitoring and evaluation of common projects and programmes to combat HIV/AIDS, in particular those aimed at curbing mother-to-child transmission, vaccine research and the development of antiretroviral drugs.
13. Foster and support common initiatives, notably project grants, training and evaluation seminars, training programmes, medical expertise or the introduction of excellence prizes for institutions and persons who have distinguished themselves in HIV/AIDS control.
14. Encourage and foster common actions aimed at curbing maternal, neo-natal and infant mortality, particularly
:
- access to basic medical and social services;
- immunization and fight against endemic diseases;
- the fight against malnutrition;
- breast-feeding.
15. Encourage rural women to mobilize for poverty alleviation and foster the community spirit by promoting inter-state trade among rural women.
16. Promote concerted actions aimed at fostering the development of the girl child and protecting the rights of children, notably by supporting actions to raise awareness to violence inflicted on women and children, sexual harassment, drug addiction and genital mutilation.
17. Initiate at regional level actions to raise awareness to the funding of income generating micro-projects targetted on underprivileged social segments.
INTERNATIONAL LEVEL
18. Organize awareness-raising actions with pharmaceutical companies aimed at obtaining
- access to low-cost antiretroviral drugs;
- adapted regional strategies to reduce maternal and infant mortality;
- programmes to alleviate suffering among children.
19. Organize resource mobilization with international institutions (UNAIDS, WHO,
UNICEF, NGOs, Foundations, etc) intended for the funding of activities relating to
AI DS control, enhancement of mother and child health and alleviation of poverty and other forms of suffering
.
20. Promote the African Synergy initiative with various international bodies in a bid to win members and support for its action and appeal to volunteers who can contribute actively to the fight against AIDS and Suffering which are plaguing the populations of Africa.
